Dr. Ross Mahowald (“Dr. Ross”)

The Story of My Neighborhood Vet

Founded by Dr. Ross Mahowald (“Dr. Ross”), My Neighborhood Vet is committed to the pursuit of modern, progressive veterinary medical care and client service for you and your family. Our goal is to be proactive in wellness and medical/surgical care of your furry family member to help them lead a long, happy, and healthy life.

We are currently pursuing our certification as an American Hospital Association Practice and are looking to achieve our Gold Cat Friendly Practice status soon. My Neighborhood Vet works hard to apply both Cat Friendly and Fear Free Principles to all of our patients. Dr.Ross is an “Elite” Fear Free Certified Professional and all staff members are required to complete their Fear Free Certification within the first 6 months on the job. What does all that mean? We are a practice where you can expect your pet to receive the most positive experience we can provide from the time you prepare to leave your home to the time you arrive back home after your visit. Ask us for more details or visit Fearfreepets.com for more information.

Dr. Ross graduated from Ohio State University in 1994 and opened My Neighborhood Vet after 25 years in practice at modern practices in Ohio and here in Chicago. His primary interest areas include feline and canine medicine, dentistry, cardiology, internal medicine, ultrasound, and laser surgery. When not working to improve the health of your family, he can be found spending time with his two Bernese Mountain Dogs, Lola and Buckingham, or riding his bicycle to and from work or for a longer ride to Indiana or Wisconsin.

Dr. Ross currently serves as a Board Member at Tree House Humane Society and is always looking to contribute to My Neghborhood Vet’s community. He enjoys participating in fund raising bike rides and supporting the many rescue groups and other non-profit organizations in our community through fundraising and veterinary service. He also enjoys public speaking and answering questions about veterinary medicine for all age ranges. Contact him today if you are interested in having him speak to your organization.
